Where to Buy Glitch Hardware
Finding glitch art hardware requires knowing where to look and what to look for.
Online Marketplaces
- eBay — the primary source. Search for specific model numbers. Set up saved searches with alerts for rare items.
- Facebook Marketplace — local deals, often cheaper than eBay since there’s no shipping anxiety for fragile electronics.
- Reverb — primarily for audio gear but video equipment appears, especially modular synth modules.
In Person
- Goodwill / Thrift Stores — older video equipment still shows up. Check regularly.
- Estate Sales — production studios and AV companies liquidate equipment this way.
- Hamfests / Electronics Swap Meets — excellent for finding obscure professional AV gear.
Pricing Notes
The rising popularity of video art has driven prices up noticeably. Panasonic MX50s that were $100 a few years ago now sell for $300+. Buy what you can afford now — prices generally only go up for desirable models.
What to Check
- All inputs and outputs work (test with known-good sources)
- No burnt electronics smell
- Buttons and faders are responsive
- Power supply is included (replacements can be hard to find for older gear)
